Cruise-A-Thong Glenwood Springs
One of the great things about or community is the events that happen each year. Between downtown markets and shows, river rallies and causes, skiing events, farmers markets, business chamber events and more, there is always so much to choose from. One of my personal favorites each year is the Cruise-A-Thong!
To the average Joe or Jane, you might not know what this event is all about but the truth is that it’s all about YOU! This “don’t tri-athalon” brings hundreds of people together for one whacky, fun and super interesting race. The “most average” person is named the winner after the race so it has just a little different feeling than other races you might have entered!
The participants start off on a bike ride with plenty of comfort stations along the way to keep you hydrated and filled up on fruit and ice cream. After the bike ride, people grab their floatable device (wait until you see some of these) and walk up the Roaring Fork River a mile or so before taking the plunge into the Roaring Fork River and floating down to the finish line at Veltus Park.
Many people ask where the $27-$37 registration fees go. They go to improving the life of our river shed and also community improvements like this awesome changing station that was installed at Two Rivers Park from the 2016 proceeds:
Here are some photos of the 2017 Cruise-A-Thong. We hope to see you next year!
