Remember when our grandparents told us how small towns were the only thing they knew and how the slow pace of life was cherished? When you decide to purchase New Castle real estate that is exactly what you are getting into. Modern day amenities and old town charm is what New Castle is all about today. Located just off Interstate 70 with easy access to The Roaring Fork Valley and endless recreation, New Castle has recently become a very hot real estate market.
In New Castle Colorado we have an amazing community made up of roughly 5,000 residents. For the most part all of these people not only know their neighbors but genuinely care about them. It is not uncommon to see neighbors helping each other here in New Castle. Whether you are out driving around on a weekend and see neighbors gardening together or walking around town during the week and see little kids walking home from school together, you will quickly notice this is a tight knit community. I am not sure why we see less and less of this today but if you decide to invest in New Castle real estate, you will get this amazing community to share your home with.
With a great school system, affordable home prices, established local restaurants and business’, a world class golf course and the Colorado river out your front door, New Castle real estate is really taking off as of late. It is hard to find a small Colorado town that is so rich in history and charm, so close to world class amenities and recreation and still offers affordable living for the average family. This is the main reason why we are seeing a spike in New Castle real estate activity and more and more families are re-locating from surrounding towns in the Roaring Fork Valley to New Castle.
Elk Creek and Kathryn Senor are the two elementary schools along with Riverside Middle School located in New Castle. If you ask parents, teachers or students what they think, chances are you will receive a positive reaction. When it is time for high school, New Castle residents head a few miles West down Interstate 70 and attend Coal Ridge High School.
So by now you must be asking: what’s the catch? No catch here and when we look at real estate sales, the opportunity gets even sweeter. We know that the Roaring Fork lifestyle comes with a high cost of living. New Castle is the first town West of The Roaring Fork valley when heading down I-70 and also the first town that we start to see affordable home prices for the average family. In New Castle you can buy an updated single family home for under $300,000 and if you are shopping for a condo or townhouse, there are nice options in the high $100’s to low $200’s.
What is lacking in quantity of shops and restaurants is made up in quality when visiting New Castle. Some of my favorites are Elk Creek Bar & Grill, New Castle Diner & Silver Club Saloon. When the belly is all full and it’s time to do a little street shopping, I suggest visiting Speckled Feather & The Spirits of New Castle to be exposed to the local charm.
In addition to all the great things just mentioned, New Castle is also only 45 minutes to Aspen and about 50 minutes to Vail so you are within a short drive to world class skiing as well. The difference is that where home prices soar into the million dollar ranges in some of the surrounding areas, New Castle real estate tends to be priced very affordably. Typically skiing and golf go hand in hand. When you are done enjoying your ski season, Lakota Ranch Golf Course in New Castle provides an amazing backdrop to the Rocky Mountains and you will not be disappointed if you book a tee time here.
If you’re a power sports enthusiast like myself, you should know about the Flat Tops. If you head North out of New Castle up Buford Road you will eventually get to some open space on what seems like the top of the world. Up here you will find endless miles of open space and trails for ATV’s, motorcycles, snowmobiles and whatever other toys you have! This is an excellent option for outdoor recreation with similar landscapes that we find near Utah but you have access out your back door and not 3 hours down the highway when you invest in New Castle Real Estate.
If you are into healthy and local produce like most Colorado residents, you should also know about the New Castle community market. Starting in July and going through September, each year New Castle hosts a community market made up of more than 10 vendors. Each Thursday from 4:30-7:30 in Burning Mountain Park is where you will find the community market going on. In addition to great food and produce, there are also many hand crafted gifts available and on display.
If you are craving green space, New Castle has great parks located all around town. Here are some of the parks in New Castle:
- Alder Park: Nearly 3 acres located adjacent to Alder Lane in the Castle Valley Ranch area. It contains two “micro” (1/4 regulation size) soccer fields, fishing pond, a restroom, several trails and a large parking area.
- Burning Mountain Park: 1/2 acre located in downtown New Castle. It has playground equipment, a gazebo, picnic tables, a public restroom and a beautiful monument honoring the miners who died in three coal mine explosions.
- Coal Ridge Park: 12 acres on the South side of the Colorado River includes approximately 2 developed acres with and a boat ramp to access the Colorado River. Coal Ridge Park is home to our popular 18 hole Fire Mountain Disc Golf course.
- Grand River Park: Our newest park, with 12 acres located on the south side of the Colorado River. The park features a regulation soccer field, playground, river beach, fishing pond, wetlands and a half-mile trail with interpretive signs.
- The Hogback Skate Park: 1/2 acre located south of Castle Valley Boulevard near South Wild Horse Drive.
- Hot Shot Park: Located between South Wild Horse Drive and Castle Valley Boulevard, is approximately 3.3 acres with playground equipment, basketball courts, pickle ball court, a small picnic shelter and lawn area.
- Kay Williams Park: A small playground adjacent to Alder Park.
- Mattivi Plaza: A small downtown space with planters and sculpture.
To recap the New Castle real estate market, you will find single family homes starting below the $300,000 mark and if you are shopping for a condo or townhouse, you have hundreds of options available to you in the high $100’s to low $200’s. As you move up valley into the Roaring Fork (Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Basalt, Snowmass, Aspen) those home prices exponentially rise. The majority of the working class that keeps Aspen running daily will commute up valley from Glenwood Springs or New Castle. The reality is that New Castle real estate provides an opportunity that you cannot find anywhere else up valley. You truly get so much more bang for your buck when purchasing in New Castle. As a bonus, you and your family will have a community that cares about you and endless opportunities for outdoor enjoyment steps from your door.
